Langara Events on the Transit Plebiscite – March 11 and 18
Metro Vancouver residents have the opportunity to vote in the Metro Vancouver Transportation & Transit Plebiscite. Do you support a new 0.5% Metro Vancouver Congestion Improvement Tax, to be dedicated to the Mayors’ Transportation and Transit Plan?
The Canadian Studies and Environmental Studies programs are jointly sponsoring two events regarding the upcoming transportation plebiscite. Everyone is welcome to attend and admission is free.
Wednesday March 11:
Lon LaClaire, Manager of Strategic Transportation Planning with the City of Vancouver, will speak on the need for regional transportation
investment, including the Broadway SkyTrain Extension.
Wednesday March 18:
A panel of Langara College faculty members will speak on issues regarding the plebiscite. The panel consists of:
Frances Bula, award winning columnist, writer on urban issues, and Department Chair of Journalism;
Colin Mills, Geography instructor who specializes in the broader social and structural issues related to urban transportation; and
Murray Mollard, lawyer, former Executive Director of the BC Civil Liberties Association and instructor in the Criminal Justice Program.
Both events take place from 2:30 PM to 4:00 PM in room A130 at Langara College (100 West 49th Avenue).
