Dear colleagues,
I’m writing to follow up on the email we received on Tuesday from Scott Murray, the chair of our Board of Governors, detailing their decision to retain our President in her role at Langara.
I have heard from many of you how discouraged, disappointed, and angry you are, not just with the decision itself, but also with the tone and content of the email. The tone-deaf nature of the message, after a 92% vote of no confidence, is hard to explain. It’s difficult to believe that members of our Board of Governors fully listened to or understood the nature of the issues we raised – though I assure you, your LFA board members and I have worked hard to bring your voices forward.
Meanwhile, we will continue to work for Langara, our students, and our faculty. Those of us who are embedded in the institution every day, who walk the halls, talk to the students, and bring programs to life, know the value of this place and these people, and the need to fight for its success. We are not done advocating for positive change and strong leadership at Langara.
We will have more news for you, after the LFA board meets and we assess next steps. I anticipate bringing you more information next week and holding an all-members meeting after the spring break.
For now, I want to say thank you for the care and commitment you bring to our college. It matters every day.
In solidarity,
Pauline
President, Langara Faculty Association
