Bargaining at the Universities
Here is the situation at the BC universities currently in negotiations for new contracts.
All five of BC’s largest universities (UBC, SFU, UVic, Thompson Rivers University and the UNBC) have been subject to strike action in the past week in efforts to get their employers back to the bargaining table for a deal:
UBC: Talks are continuing with one of the two other CUPE locals – local 2278. CUPE 116 is still engaged in targeted picketing.
SFU: CUPE 3338 set up picket lines on October 11 with the employer still refusing to negotiate. The Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU) has implemented an overtime ban
UVic: Talks are continuing with three CUPE locals, two of which are participating in rotating strikes.
UNBC: A full walk out of support staff workers remains in effect and the local meets with the university bargaining team on October 15-16.
TRU: An overtime ban went into effect October 10, with talks scheduled for October 18 -19.
